// Free Tesla Finance Tool
Plug in your numbers and get an instant Tesla lease payment estimate — broken down by depreciation, finance charge, and tax. Unlike most calculators, this one also lets you compare lease vs. buy side-by-side, estimate your early exit cost, convert Money Factor to APR, and calculate novated lease tax savings (AU) or PCP payments (UK) — all in one place.
Uses your inputs from the Lease Payment tab. Compares total out-of-pocket cost over the same period — leasing vs. financing to own.
Estimate what it costs to exit your Tesla lease early — and whether you have positive equity to work with. Uses your lease inputs from Tab 1.
Calculate your pre-tax salary saving from a novated lease (AU) or see your PCP payment breakdown (UK). Uses your lease payment from Tab 1.
Everything you need to know about how Tesla leasing works, how the numbers are calculated, and how to use this tool.
Every lease payment has two parts. Depreciation charge: (Net Cap Cost − Residual Value) ÷ Term. Finance charge: (Net Cap Cost + Residual Value) × Money Factor. Add sales tax if your state taxes payments. This calculator shows both components separately — and the donut chart breaks them down visually — because most people don't realise the finance charge alone can add $50–$150/month depending on the Money Factor.
A Money Factor (MF) is the interest rate used in lease financing — expressed as a tiny decimal instead of a percentage. The conversion is simple: MF × 2,400 = APR. So MF 0.00149 equals 3.576% APR. Use the built-in MF ↔ APR converter in this calculator to check any rate instantly. Tesla publishes current MFs quarterly — check TeslaMotorsClub or Leasehackr forums for the latest figures by model and region.
Tesla sets residuals quarterly — you can't negotiate them, only check them. For a 36-month / 12,000 mi/yr Model Y lease, residuals have typically ranged 50–56% of MSRP in 2024–2026 programs. Higher mileage = lower residual (roughly 1–3% per additional 3,000 miles/yr). Model 3 residuals are similar. Model X and S residuals tend lower (44–52%) due to steeper absolute depreciation on higher MSRPs. This calculator's model presets are set to typical mid-range figures — always verify the current program with Tesla or your leasing company.
Lease wins if: you want a lower monthly payment, plan to upgrade every 2–3 years, drive under 15,000 miles/yr, and prefer to avoid depreciation risk. Buy wins if: you drive over 15,000 miles/yr, plan to keep the car 5+ years, want to build equity, or qualify for the $7,500 EV tax credit (not available on Tesla leases through TFSLLC unless passed through in some promotional deals). Use the Buy vs Lease tab above to model your exact numbers. See also our full Tesla leasing guide for deeper analysis.
Due at signing (DAS) is what you pay on day one: first month's payment + down payment (cap cost reduction) + acquisition fee + any upfront taxes and registration fees. Some people structure a $0 DAS lease by rolling all fees into monthly payments — this reduces day-one cost but raises the monthly. This calculator shows estimated DAS so you know exactly what to bring. Note: rolling a down payment into the monthly is generally not financially advantageous on a lease (unlike a purchase).
Early exit is more complex than most people expect. You typically owe: remaining monthly payments + an early termination fee ($200–$500) + any excess mileage or wear charges. However, if the car's current market value exceeds the lease payoff amount (remaining payments + residual value), you have positive equity — meaning you could negotiate a dealer buyout and offset your exit costs significantly. Use the Early Exit tab above to model your specific scenario. Tesla also allows lease transfers (with a transfer fee), which can be the cheapest exit route.
Yes. Tesla allows lease buyouts at lease end. The purchase price = Residual Value + applicable purchase option fee + taxes. Whether buying makes sense depends on whether the car's current market value is higher or lower than the residual. If market value > residual (common in strong used EV markets), buying and selling privately can yield a profit. If market value < residual, simply return the car. Toggle Show lease-end buyout price in Tab 1 to see your estimated buyout alongside all other outputs.
Generally, no — and here's why. If the car is totalled or stolen, you lose your down payment (gap insurance covers the lease balance, not pre-paid amounts). Unlike buying, you don't recover a down payment as equity when the lease ends. A $3,000 down payment reduces your monthly by roughly $83/month (on a 36-month lease) — not dramatic. Financially, $0 down and a slightly higher monthly is often the smarter lease structure. The calculator defaults to $3,000 down; change it to $0 to see the monthly impact.
A novated lease is a salary packaging arrangement in Australia — your employer deducts lease payments from your pre-tax salary, reducing your taxable income. Since 2022, eligible EVs (including Tesla Model 3 under the luxury car threshold of ~$89,332 in 2024–25) are FBT-exempt, making the saving even larger. Depending on your salary and tax bracket, a novated Tesla can save $4,000–$12,000+ per year. Use the Novated/PCP tab to estimate your saving. A fully maintained novated lease can also package running costs (charging, insurance, tyres) pre-tax.
PCP (Personal Contract Purchase) is the UK's most common way to finance a new car. You pay a deposit, then monthly payments covering depreciation, then at the end choose: (1) pay the Guaranteed Future Value (GFV/balloon) to own it, (2) part-exchange into a new deal, or (3) return the car. PCP payments are typically lower than HP (hire purchase) because you're only financing the depreciation, not the full value. Tesla offers PCP through Tesla Finance in the UK. Use the Novated/PCP tab above to estimate your payment and GFV options.
This calculator uses the standard industry lease formula used by Tesla Financial Services and all major lessors — the same math your leasing advisor uses. The results are as accurate as the inputs you provide. The key variables to get right: Money Factor (check TeslaMotorsClub for current program MFs), Residual % (set quarterly by Tesla), and Acquisition Fee (typically $695 for Tesla). For planning purposes, this calculator is highly reliable. For final numbers, always confirm with Tesla Financial Services — actual quotes may vary by credit tier, dealer, and promotional offers.
